Silent sweep clocks: what they are and how they differ from ticking ones
Share
Many wall clocks tick once a second. A silent sweep clock does not. Its second hand glides, which suits a bedroom, an office or any room where a ticking sound gets annoying.
What a silent sweep movement is
Our clocks use a quartz silent sweep movement. Quartz means the clock keeps time with a small electronic circuit and runs on a battery, in our case 1 AA battery (not included). The sweep part means the second hand moves in a smooth glide instead of jumping once each second. That is why there is no tick.
How it compares to an automatic watch
An automatic watch is a different thing. It is a mechanical watch that winds itself from the movement of your wrist, with no battery. Its second hand also glides, so a smooth sweep hand can look similar. Our clocks are not automatic. They have a quartz silent sweep movement with a second hand that glides like an automatic watch, with no ticking.
Why choose a silent sweep clock
- No ticking, so it works in a quiet room.
- Easy care. One AA battery, and you are set.
- A smooth look that suits a watch-inspired dial.
Our wall clocks
Our octagon designer wall clocks are 10 inches across, with a bezel inspired by classic sport watches. We also make an orange slice clock for a splash of color. See them all in the clocks collection.
