Decorating a Small Space: Shelf-Size Pieces That Make an Impact
Share
A small room does not need less personality, it needs smaller pieces and more care about where they go. The trick is to choose items that stand, lean or sit on a surface, so you are not covering every wall. Here are some compact options from the shop.
Pieces that stand on their own
The Motorcycle Shield Light Sign includes a stand for shelves and desks. The Porsche Crest Light Box is 10" x 8", USB powered, and light enough to stand or mount. The Red Bull Light Box is 10" x 7" and stands on a desk or mounts on a wall.
Pieces that lean
The Porsche Crest Wall Art can lean on a shelf instead of hanging. The Lamborghini Shield Wall Art has an optional desk stand for $5 more and is about 0.3" to 0.4" thick.
Pieces that hold things
A Ribbed Pedestal Tray works as a key tray, a catch-all or a styling piece, and it comes in three sizes starting at 6.9" (175 mm). A Ribbed Bottle Vase in the small size is 6.3" tall, which fits a narrow shelf.
Rules for small rooms
- Choose one hero piece per surface.
- Group small items on a tray so they read as one.
- Use height, since a tall vase or a stand-up sign takes up little floor or table space.
- Leave some surface empty.
An example shelf
Put a small light box on the left, a ribbed vase on the right, and a tray in the middle with a couple of small items on it. That is three objects, with space between them.
