Small Apartment Entryway Ideas: Key Holder, Tray and One Good Wall Piece
Share
A small entryway has a big job. It has to hold keys, mail and the things you grab on the way out, without eating floor space. The answer is to work up the wall and keep surfaces limited. Here is a plan that uses three items from our shop.
1. Use the Wall for Keys
A wall-mounted key holder takes almost no room. Ours are about 3 inches wide, 2 inches high and 1.5 inches deep, with a hook for keys and fobs and a top shelf for one Hot Wheels size car. They are $25 in brands including Toyota, Honda, Jeep and Subaru. Toy car and keys are not included.
2. Add a Small Tray
If you have a narrow shelf or console, put a tray on it for the small things. The small Ribbed Pedestal Tray, at 6.9 inches, works as a key tray or catch-all. The listing says it suits entryways, consoles and shelves.
3. Pick One Wall Piece
Hang one piece at eye level. A slim emblem like the Bugatti Emblem Wall Art or a shelf-size piece such as the Porsche Crest Wall Art adds personality without needing power.
The Three-Item Rule
- One item on the wall for keys
- One item on a surface for loose things
- One item for decoration
Space-Saving Tips
- Hang the key holder at about shoulder height beside the door.
- Keep the tray half empty so it does not become a pile.
- Leave a clear stretch of wall around the decor piece.
If You Rent
Think about mounting before you buy. Check your lease, and choose a hanging method that fits your wall type.
