USB, Plug-In or Battery? How Our Signs, Light Boxes and Clocks Are Powered

Before you choose where something goes, it helps to know how it gets power. Some of our pieces use USB, one is described as plug-in, our clocks take a battery and a few need nothing at all. This guide pulls the details from the product pages so you can plan outlets and cables ahead of time.

USB powered pieces

Most LED signs and light boxes use USB. That includes the Audi RS LED Neon Sign, Toyota Supra LED Neon Sign, BMW M LED Neon Sign, Nissan GT-R LED Sign and the round and rectangular light boxes. The Porsche Crest Light Box is described as plug-and-play USB power from a wall adapter, power bank or PC. See our USB light box guide for placement ideas.

Plug-in

The Lamborghini XL LED Neon Sign is listed as plug-in power with a steady-on light. Plan for an outlet near where you will hang it.

Battery powered clocks

Our wall clocks, including the Octagon Designer Wall Clock and the Orange Slice Wall Clock, are 10 inches across and use quartz movement with a silent sweep second hand. They need 1 AA battery, which is not included. Having a battery on hand means you can hang the clock straight away. If you want to know why the silent sweep matters, read our explainer on silent sweep clocks.

No power needed

The Retro Amp Phone Speaker Stand is a passive acoustic sound chamber that needs no power at all. Wall art, key holders, vases and trays are also unpowered.

Planning your wall

  • Measure the distance from the sign to your nearest outlet or USB port.
  • Think about how you will route the cable. Some round light boxes have hollow bracket arms that hide the wire.
  • Check whether the piece needs a wall adapter. Our product pages describe the power type, and you should confirm what comes in the box before you order.
  • For clocks, buy a fresh AA battery in advance.

Cable tips

A power bank can give you flexibility on a shelf, while a wall adapter suits a permanent installation. Keeping the cable neat makes the piece look much more deliberate. For wall layouts, see our guide to planning a garage wall.
